The woodcut relief prints, “Tragedy” and “Comedy”, are revised illustrations from old sketches that I drew when I was first exploring my style as an artist. They visually portray the improvement I’ve made as an illustrator, as well as the way in which my art style can be translated into woodcut.
The vertical chatter, or texture, in “Tragedy” highlights the character’s tears and the feeling of being weighed down, while in “Comedy”, the horizontal chatter emphasizes the tension in the subject’s expression as they smile.
